Description

Candidate should have a solid understanding of American Hardwood Species and ability to identify and evaluate logs for the potential within. Understanding of the market for American Hardwoods and related market impacts. An established network within the Eastern US wood products industry. Willingness to travel as needed for log procurement. A desire to play an active leading role on the Horizon team. An understanding of, and appreciation for, wood. Ability to operate log loaders and lifts according to standard safety and efficiency protocols. Ability to operate chain saws while adhering to maximum safety standards. Competent computer skills Managerial or supervisory experience Excellent communication skills to include networking and negotiating inventory.

Qualifications & experience

• The Log Buyer is responsible for the procurement, grading and tagging of logs and maintaining an organized log yard.
• Running an effective log purchase program consisting of grading, purchasing, and properly tagging high quality logs.
• Inventory management and control of logs purchased to be used in production and responsible for maintaining target inventories to ensure that wood will be available based on production needs.
• Provide quality control of log purchases.
• Developing positive, long-term personal relationships with vendors in order to procure quality logs.

Salary

$25-35/hour depending on experience.
