About the Center

The Ned Smith Center is in a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located Millersburg, Pennsylvania, a half-hour drive North from Harrisburg. The Center’s mission is to honor the legacy of wildlife artist Ned Smith by merging the arts and natural world through education, exhibition, and experiences. Our lands feature over 500 acres and 9 miles of hiking trails to explore. The Sourbeer & Lick Education Building houses our classroom, offices, meeting room, and three art galleries, including the Ned Smith Gallery which features a rotating collection of art from world-renowned wildlife artist Ned Smith.

Summer Internship Overview:

The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art is seeking a college-level student who has successfully completed at least one year of college and is pursuing a degree in environmental education, art(s) education, or a conservation-related field to apply for a summer internship position with the Center. This three-month position will begin on Wednesday June 1, 2022 and conclude on Friday, August 19, 2022; dates may be flexible to work with school schedule.

Position Responsibilities:

• Assist and aid in facilitating summer camps and public programs

• Assist in the management of our Annual Youth Art Contest

• Completion and presentation of a summer intern project

• Photographing events and summer camps

• Documenting attendance at each event

• Assist in general land and facilities maintenance as pertaining to the department and Center as needed Position Qualifications:

• Successful completion of at least one year of college coursework at an accredited college or university • Pursuing a degree in environmental education, art(s) education, conservation, or a related field • Must have a sincere interest in teaching or working with others

• Understanding of basic natural history, environmental education, and/or art concepts • Ability to relate to individuals and groups in a warm, positive manner

• Strong communication skills

• Valid driver’s license

• Willing to undergo required state and federal background checks related to working with children

• First Aid/CPR certification preferred
